Fundación Telefónica, interested in tracking developments in the freshest artistic movements, is please to present Terre di Nessuno, the latest work by Concha Jerez and José Iges. Their daring and innovative approach enables us once again to confirm that the frontiers between the artistic disciplines are now more hypothetical than real. From their respective creative spheres, Jerez and Iges have managed to bring together a series of imaginary places, composed mainly of sound and the visual arts.
Iges/Jerez’ principal contribution to art is a new for of creative representation, in which each piece evolves, adapting itself to the exhibition spaces and to each visitor. The artists, fleeing from all that is static, pose works in the domain of experimentation and participation that address the crisis faced by mankind in our time.
Their aim is certainly to extend the customary perceptive limits in the contemplation of the artistic object which, in this instance, springs from the no-man’s-lands in which technology appears to have replaced human values. These lands are hardly promising, and in them we hear the anonymous testimony of a society which no longer speaks and from which only noises can be heard –the human voice is but a distant memory. What sight encompasses, within the limits of these landscapes, conveys a certain sensation of loneliness and emptiness that invites us to reflect upon our future.
We hope that the reflective and conceptual nature of this exhibition will be of great interest to all who take part in it, immersed as we are in a time of continuous change, where the search for solid reference points has become an urgent need.
